1. Who we are and what this is
Balum ("Balum", the "App", "we", "us", or "our") is a personal Islamic wellbeing companion that offers prayer times, Qiblah direction, daily reflections, learning content, habit and streak tracking, a mood check-in, guided breathing, a private journal, and a private du'a record.
These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you ("you" or the "user") and Balum, the provider of the App. By downloading, installing, accessing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum digital-consent age in your country) to use the App.
2. The Balum service
The App is provided to you under a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence for your own non-commercial use. We may add, change, suspend, or remove features at any time. The App is offered free of charge, without advertising and without subscriptions; we may change this in future with notice.
3. Accounts and sign-in
Balum works without an account. Most data stays on your device (see Section 4). You may optionally sign in with Google, Apple, or Facebook, or with an email "magic link" to back up and sync your progress across devices. We receive your name and email address from your chosen sign-in provider (with the email magic-link option, just your email; with Sign in with Apple you may choose to hide your email); when you use email magic-link we use Resend to deliver the sign-in email. You can stop syncing at any time by signing out, and you can request deletion of your synced data (see Section 5).
4. Your data and privacy
We are privacy-first by design:
- Stored only on your device: your journal entries and private du'a records, location/GPS coordinates, language and preferences, and mood check-ins.
- Synced to the cloud only if you sign in: your name and email (from your sign-in provider), and your progress data — streaks, points/XP, badges, daily completions, and bookmarks.
- Anonymous, aggregate usage analytics (on by default, can be turned off) and crash reporting help us improve the App and fix problems. Neither is used to identify you.
- We do not sell your personal data or share it with third parties for advertising.

5. Deleting your data
You may delete on-device data by removing the App. To delete synced account data, contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it within a reasonable period unless required by law.
6. Religious and informational content — important disclaimer
Balum is a personal aid, not a religious authority.
- Prayer times and Qiblah direction are calculated estimates. Always verify with a trusted local source for matters of worship.
- Quran text, translations, hadith, supplications, and lessons are provided for general educational and devotional purposes and may contain errors. They are not a substitute for qualified scholarly guidance.
- Wellbeing features are for general self-care and reflection only — not medical, psychological, or mental-health advice. If you are struggling, please seek a qualified professional. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to: (a) use the App for any unlawful purpose; (b) copy, modify, reverse-engineer, or decompile the App except as permitted by law; (c) attempt unauthorised access to our systems; (d) interfere with or disrupt the App; or (e) remove any proprietary notices.
8. Intellectual property
The App, its design, code, text, graphics, and branding (including the name "Balum") are owned by us or our licensors. Third-party content (scripture text, translations, fonts) remains the property of its respective owners. No rights beyond the licence in Section 2 are granted to you.
9. Third-party services
The App relies on Google, Apple, and Meta (Facebook) (optional sign-in), Resend (delivering the email sign-in "magic link"), Supabase (hosting and storage), Sentry (crash and error reporting), and Capgo (over-the-air app updates). Your use of those services may be subject to their own terms. We are not responsible for third-party services or content.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any content (including prayer times) is accurate or complete.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill. Because the App is free, our total aggregate liability for any claim will not exceed USD 50. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.
12. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, losses, or expenses arising from your misuse of the App or breach of these Terms.
13. Apple App Store — Additional Terms (EULA)
These additional terms apply to App Store downloads. In the event of a conflict, this Section 13 prevails.
- Acknowledgement. These Terms are between you and us only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content.
- Scope of licence. A non-transferable licence to use the App on Apple-branded devices you own or control, per App Store Usage Rules.
- Maintenance and support. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for maintenance and support. Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support services.
- Warranty. We are solely responsible for product warranties. If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple may refund the purchase price (if any); Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Product claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App, including product-liability claims and regulatory compliance claims.
- Intellectual-property claims. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for any IP infringement claims relating to the App.
- Legal compliance. You represent you are not in an embargoed country or on any U.S. Government prohibited-parties list.
- Third-party beneficiary. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the App. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
15. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms. You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it. Sections 8–12 survive termination.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by applicable law. Nothing in these Terms affects mandatory consumer-protection rights you may have in your country of residence.
